Implementasi Pendekatan Design Thingking Dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Pembelajaran Berbasis Student-Centeres Learning Di SMA Negeri 1 Rantau Selatan

This study aims to analyze the empathize and define processes in design thinking as a strategy for understanding social issues in Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) learning for Grade X students at SMA Negeri 3 Rantau Utara. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using data sources in the form of group discussion transcripts, how might we artifacts, students’ reflection journals, in-depth interviews, and field documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the empathize stage was able to increase students’ affective involvement in understanding social issues through direct experiences and interactions with the community. Meanwhile, the define stage helped students develop critical thinking skills through data synthesis and structured problem formulation. This study also produced a typology of students’ understanding of social issues consisting of descriptive-factual, relational-analytical, and systemic-transformative levels. Therefore, the integration of design thinking in PPKn learning is considered effective in improving social empathy, civic literacy, and students’ critical analysis skills toward social problems in their surrounding environment
