This study aims to investigate the existence of the Karang Memadu system—a form of customary law—as a means to prevent the practice of polygamy in the Penglipuran Customary Village (Bangli Regency, Bali), and to uncover the values inherent in its implementation. The Karang Memadu system represents a form of local wisdom that reflects how the Penglipuran community manages marital life based on prevailing traditional norms. This system is a compelling subject of study as it illustrates how customary norms are upheld and implemented within the community amidst the modern era and social change. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving individuals knowledgeable about the Karang Memadu system. The collected data were analyzed through the processes of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Karang Memadu system plays a crucial role in sustaining customary law, preventing polygamy, and maintaining household harmony as well as social order. Its implementation reflects values such as adherence to customary norms, responsibility, ethics, fairness, respect for women, and communal solidarity.
